Blasphemy and Desecration

Here I present a great gothic rock band Crowhead from Norway. The line-up consists of two members: Rym from Norwegian black metal band Ragnarok and JoI. When I've received and listened to several times a promo CD with couple of Crowhead's tracks, I said: "Oh, fuck! This is fucking GREAT!!!!" That's why I've ordered their full stuff released as demo-CD "Love Letter" via German label Neodawn Productions in 2.000 anno bastardi. AAARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Yes!!!! I've listened this stuff a lot of times non-stop. Those days my mood was very depressive, as usual. And I sent a couple of questions to JoI.

JoI answers.

- What does the name of Crowhead symbolise?

- Crowhead. We were close to call us Guardian Angels, but after some days, we just named us Crowhead.

- The demo-CD Crowhead "Love Letter" is simply masterpiece in my opinion. What are reactions among listeners?

- Thanks. In fact all are the good reviews, I think the people around like the demo-CD, I hope also they will like the full-length CD, we will release in August or September!

- I don't want to do any comparisons, but when I've heard your stuff it reminded me Depeche Mode "Ultra". How you regard these opinions? Maybe there are some influence, atmosphere or other sources.

- I think the D/M "thing" on "Love Letter" is our demo producer Jonas Groth's finger work. But jesus. D/M rules like hell! And Groth was the programmer on the demo, and I know he loves them.

- "Love Letter". To whom the letter is directed?

- To all dead souls out there, broken hearts etc.

- When reading the lyrics of "Love Letter" everyone can see that it isn't love in orthodox meaning. The lyrics are very morbid, depressive, suicidal, demonic. What sources are reflected in lyrics? Maybe there are some experiments or vital experience?

- It's simple, love starts everything and death takes it to an end, and in-between there is nothing but sorrow. Therefore our lyrics is just a reflection of our minds.

- I think I'm not mistaken assuming that you go by path of Darkness. If it's possible could you tell about own visions of Darkness even in general aspects?

- We do not like the sun.

- Does the text "Through the eyes of a mad man" tell about Death?

- Yes, kind of. It's about a man killing his wife. Maybe more about desperation and insanity and broken love.

JoI and Rym did a great work in another great Norwegian band The Shadow Dancers. I received in possession a CD "Equilibrio" of Shadow Dancers some time ago. And I should admit that I was very surprised with this stuff. It's more differ than Crowhead's stuff. But I must be honest I like this stuff too. And I thought it would be not bad if I asked JoI some questions connected with Shadow Dancers. In my opinion the vocal parts are very demonic. It reminds me of The Cure's vocal parties. And the music of The Shadow Dancers is great!!

- The Shadow Dancers. Does the band still exist?

- For us Shadow Dancers are over, all over, and I have no idea of what the other guys are doing. But The "band" Shadow Dancers are totally dead for us. We could not work with that band anymore. That's all.

- The stuff of The Shadow Dancers is very much differ from Crowhead's music. Why have you decided to play in Crowhead more different stuff than in The Shadow Dancers?

- Well, Crowhead's music is made by 2 persons, and in Shadow Dancers we were five. The Shadow Dancers members were also more into metal, and that's also a thing we do not care about in Crowhead, we make melodies after our feelings and we do not care about if it's metal or aggressive. We just make the music we like to hear. I think Rym got out all his Black metal aggression, playing in Ragnarok, and he likes to do his melody thing in Crowhead.

- Whether THE SHADOW DANCERS's vocal parties are made under influence of The Cure?

- The Cure was a kind of influence in Shadow Dancers, I think.

- What is it possible to expect from Crowhead in the future (I mean new CDs, maybe gigs etc)?

- We are in the studio now, and we will record some new songs, a full length CD will be out in September (I hope) then we maybe will do some gigs, we will see.
